Visual Exploration - Exercise 5.3: Creating Connections

Reading through this exercise I noticed that my 10 selected images did not fit well with the exercise brief. Indeed, one of my chosen images was itself, a photo mashup. I found it difficult to see how I could do this exercise with the selected images. Additionally, this exercise was unapologetically a rehash of exercise 2.7.

Again, instead of giving me (the student) an intended learning outcome, it proscribed the method to use. I would likely not learn anything new from the technique. The only difference was that it was using my own images. My understanding of this exercise, trying to read between the lines was to try to see connections and possibilities that I might not have seen otherwise.

If I was coming at section five cold, then looking for connections to find avenues for further exploration could be useful. But I was not coming at this cold. I developed a progression and exploration of ideas and techniques through this module, and at each stage was given formative tutor feedback to prompt possible direction of study.

So coming into section five, I already had an idea of where I wanted to progress my exploration. It was a combination of my own interests and the feedback from my tutor.

I do not believe doing this exercise as described will contribute to my fifth assignment productively - it only serves to frustrate me.

I believe that I have explored threads running through my work in the previous exercise as well, and intend to pursue these during the assignment. I will not be completing this exercise, and instead, move on to make the most of the Assignment project. I will be conscious of the intentions of this exercise, however, and will endeavour to incorporate generative activities that combine different ideas.
